Wannan Medical College (皖南医学院) is located in Wuhu City, Anhui Province. It is a full-time, multidisciplinary higher education institution with a primary focus on medicine. The college is recognized as a doctoral degree authorization project construction unit in Anhui Province and plays a key role in implementing the province’s “Three Alls Education” comprehensive reform. In 2019, Professor Huang Houbao from the First Affiliated Hospital led a project titled “Prospective Single-Arm Clinical Study of Organoid-Induced Tumor-Reactive T Cells in Treating Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer,” which was approved as a major science and technology special project in Anhui Province.
History and Evolution
Founded in 1958 as Wuhu Medical College, it merged with Anhui Medical College in 1970, becoming its Wannan Branch. In 1974, with the approval of the State Council, the institution became an independent entity named Wannan Medical College. It achieved the status of granting master’s and bachelor’s degrees in 1981 and 1982, respectively. Its affiliated hospitals include Yijishan Hospital, integrated in 1963, and Xuancheng District People’s Hospital, incorporated in 2012.
