About City:

Fuzhou, the capital and largest municipality of Fujian Province, has a history spanning over 2,000 years. As a coastal port and shipbuilding hub, it has been a central economic, political, cultural, and transportation point in the region. The city is also known as “Rong Cheng” or “Banyan City,” due to the many banyan trees planted since the Song Dynasty, which now provide shade throughout the city.

Located in the southeast of China, Fuzhou sits at the lower reaches of the Min River, about 50 kilometers from the coast. Its history traces back to the third century AD, and it was once the capital of the coastal kingdom of Minyue. Marco Polo, the famous Italian explorer, is said to have visited Fuzhou in the late 13th century, describing it as a prosperous center of international trade, with beautiful gardens and abundant fruits.

The city is known for its rich cultural heritage, particularly its handicraft industries, such as three treasures: lacquerware, horn combs, and oil-paper umbrellas. Folk arts, including Min Opera, continue to play an important role in the daily lives of the local people.

Fuzhou enjoys a warm climate, making it an ideal destination for visitors year-round. One of the city’s must-visit sites is Sanfang Qixiang, or “Three Lanes and Seven Alleys,” an ancient architectural complex dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This well-preserved district is often referred to as “the Museum of the Buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties” and is considered a living fossil of ancient city street systems. The area covers 40 hectares and is home to 268 ancient houses.

Known as a “Land of Good Fortune,” Fuzhou is a beautiful city, and visitors can expect to enjoy a pleasant and enriching experience during their time here.
