About City:

Wenzhou, the third-largest city in Zhejiang Province, is a major economic hub in the region. Known for its thriving business community and the “Wenzhou model” of entrepreneurship, the city plays a key role in China’s export economy. Wenzhou produces around 90% of the world’s spectacles and a significant amount of footwear. While not a common stop on typical China tour itineraries, Wenzhou is a culturally rich city. However, it is not as foreigner-friendly as some other cities like Hangzhou or Ningbo. Despite this, there are plenty of things to explore in the city. The foreigner community in Wenzhou is relatively small, with around 100-200 residents, although many foreign businesspeople pass through the city.

Wenzhou Airport is east of the city, receiving flights from around China, and because it also supports flights to and from Hong Kong, it is considered international. Wenzhou Airport recently built a new terminal which is much more user friendly and less oppressive for foreigners. Wenzhou Central Train Station serves most cities throughout China, although because of Wenzhou’s mountains, train journeys are sometimes much longer than their bus counterparts.

Wenzhou offers a range of accommodations, from luxurious star-rated hotels to affordable street guesthouses and inns, ensuring options for every budget. Whether you’re looking for a high-end stay or a more economical choice, you’ll find a hotel that suits your needs while traveling in Wenzhou.

Climate:

In Wenzhou, the summers are hot, oppressive, and mostly cloudy; the winters are cold and mostly clear; and it is wet year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 42°F to 89°F and is rarely below 34°F or above 94°F.
