About City:
Chifeng, located in the heart of Inner Mongolia, gets its name from a red mountain to the northeast of the city. Historically, it was the birthplace of the Liao Kingdom. Situated in southeastern Inner Mongolia, Chifeng is the most populous city in the region, positioned at the meeting point of Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, and Hebei. The city is not only rich in historical landmarks but also boasts abundant natural beauty, including grasslands, deserts, and inland lakes. The Bolongke Desert Tourist Area, which combines grasslands, lakes, and desert landscapes, is an ideal place to experience local customs. Additionally, the region features unique geological wonders such as ice stone forests and ice stone mortar.
Chifeng lies 315 kilometers (196 miles) south of Beijing. The Chifeng grassland is a significant part of the vast Inner Mongolian grasslands, which include the well-known Ulanbu, Gonger, and Bahrain Grasslands, with the Ulanbu Grassland being the most beautiful and closest to Beijing.
Inner Mongolia is renowned for its expansive grasslands, covering almost a third of China’s total grassland area and a quarter of its pasturelands. The livestock industry here saw significant improvements after 1950, through measures like large-scale wolf hunting to protect herds, cattle immunization, and advancements in pasturing and animal husbandry.
Climate
Chifeng enjoys a semi-dry continental monsoon climate. Spring is dry and windy. Summer is short and the rainfall occurs mainly during this period. The average temperature in summer ranges from 18-23 C (64 – 73 F). Winter is long and chilly. Extremely low temperatures are usually experienced during January and February.
